OBJECTIVES
Global Organization of People of Indian Origin is a non partisan, secular global organization engaged in promoting the well being of People of Indian Origin (PIO), enhancing cooperation and communication between Indians living in different countries. With this perspective some specific objectives are:
- To promote the interests and aspirations of the Indian communities around the world and of specific groups residing in various countries of their adoption.
- To promote the common cultural heritage and thereby create a binding relationship.
- To mobilize financial, intellectual and professional resources of Indians abroad for their mutual development and advancement.
- To encourage interaction between communities of Indians abroad on a global level to deliberate and decide on common issues and problem facing them including education and technology.
- To further the interaction between PIOs and other communities at global level in promoting world peace, progress and ecological harmony
PRINCIPLES
EQUALITY: No country, irrespective of its size, its financial capacity, or the strength of its PIO population shall have more than one vote. There shall be equality between women and men at all levels
DIVERSITY: THE Organization shall strive for achieving a representation of diversity (regional, linguistic) from within the PIO community and from different regions of the globe. Attempt shall be made to develop as many sectors of activity of interest to PIO's as possible.
DECENTRALIZATION IN DECISION - MAKING: The decision making process of GOPIO shall be highly decentralized permitting large numbers of people, countries and sectors of activity to participate and arrive at a consensus. No one person, country, continent or sector of activity shall monopolize the decision making process.
CONSENSUS: Consensus shall be the ideal to achieve. Attempt shall be made to listen and to resolve the issues through negotiation. Philosophy of participation, accommodation and democratic decision making shall pervade GOPIO.
Final decisions shall however, be made by a simple majority.
